The Bremen‐Durban Ocean Champions programme offers 15 youth an opportunity to broaden their horizons and embark on a 2‐year journey to learn more about the ocean and inspire others by creating awareness for the marine environment. The programme is part of the Climate Change Partnership between the sister cities Bremen in Germany and Durban and involves:
Training on the ocean, the marine environment, project management, leadership skills and entrepreneurship as well as public speaking and communication skills.
Development and implementation of two community projects.
Round Table discussions with decision makers from politics, business and civil society.
Knowledge exchange and networking opportunities with key players in the marine environment
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAMME
Matric/Grade 12 with Life and/or Physical Sciences
Must be between ages of 18 – 25
Must be eThekwini Residents (proof of residence required)
Must be currently unemployed and not studying in 2018
Had never undergone/benefited from a similar developmental programme.
A Municipality application formfor employment must be completed for applications. Candidates must attach a one page letter of motivation detailing why they want to become a Bremen‐Durban Ocean Champion. In the motivation, applicants must demonstrate their understanding and interest on marine matters.
A two page CV detailing all achievements to date must also be included in the application together with certified copies of ID and all relevant certificates.
A screening process may include: a work sample, medical assessments, interviews and other relevant assessments.
Applicants who have not received any response within three months should regard their applications as unsuccessful.
